Recursive Patterns and Explicit Functions

In this 45-minute lesson, students will be exploring patterns to identify the rate of increase or decrease between terms in a sequence, use that information to predict the value of the next item, and ultimately write the explicit function to correctly identify the n-th term of the sequence. Students should then be able to state the recursive pattern of an explicit function. The focus is on linear relationships with extensions involving non-linear rates of increase/decrease to be explored as enrichment.
