Multiplication Misconceptions

In this activity, students will examine four multi-digit multiplication equations that have errors in computation. Each problem’s miscalculation addresses one of the common multiplication misconceptions that students might make. Students will identify the error, explain the misunderstanding, find the correct product using the standard algorithm and then support their correct answer with another multiplication strategy such as a ratio table, area model, or partial products.
