The Fifth Grader Who Started the American Revolution: Identify Main/Central Idea

In this task, students will participate in a mystery bag activity, using clues from a paper bag to identify the main or central idea, along with evidence to support their thinking. Students will also read an informational source (article) and transfer that same skill, identifying the main/central idea and evidence to support their thinking. Students often struggle with the task of finding the main/central idea of a text by identifying details from the text that are relevant, but not the most important.
