Write and Revise Narratives

Students can produce effective narrative writing for a range of purposes and audiences. Target 1a focuses on students composing specific parts (beginning, middle, or ending) of a narrative text, whereas Target 1b focuses on students revising at the sentence or paragraph level. Students will need to be able to write and revise parts of a narrative, such as beginnings, transitions, or endings, to create or improve a logical, engaging flow of events in a story for a specific audience and purpose. Students will need to be able to elaborate using narrative techniques and strategies such as descriptive details (including sensory language) and dialogue to develop and improve the development of characters, setting, action and or events. Additionally, students will need to be able to convey experiences and events through the use of precise words and phrases within sentences that develop ideas with relevant descriptive details, sensory language, and dialogue.
