The process of this one- or two-day lesson is an introduction to using semicolons when developing compound and complex sentences. This lesson includes opportunities for the students and teacher to review prior knowledge of sentence structure, to practice creating different types of sentences using a semicolon, and to use punctuation, specifically semicolons, to connect ideas and show relationships. The teacher can determine gaps in understanding through observation of individual student work, group work, and Collect and Display (team presentation).
