Dishpan tide pool

Students create a model tide pool in a dishpan to discover how tides affect rocky shore animals. As they slowly add water to their model, students observe that various animals in the tide pool are both underwater and exposed to air for various lengths of time. They then make waves and consider how animals may survive the changing tides and wave force.
