Indian Elections Web Archive

The Indian Elections Web Archive includes websites archived during the general elections in 2009 and 2019. As the world’s most populous democratic nation with the largest number of eligible voters, India has a political landscape with dozens of major linguistic groups and numerous political parties officially recognized at the national and state level.

Sites harvested as part of this archive project include candidate, government, national and state political party websites. Most of the websites in this collection are in English, although some in Indian languages have also been archived.

Staff from the Library of Congress New Delhi Office and the Asian Division in Washington, D.C. selected the websites and reviewed the archived results.

Collection Period:
April 2009 to June 2009
February 2019 to June 2019

Frequency of Collection: The majority of sites in the collection were targeted for capture weekly, with fewer targeted for capture monthly.

Languages: Collection material in English, with Hindi, Telugu, Tamil, Urdu, Kannada, Lushai, Malayalam, Marathi, Panjabi/Punjabi and Oriya.
