The Atlantic World: America and the Netherlands

This online collection contains digitized items from the Library of Congress collection that was originally made available as The Atlantic World: America and the Netherlands/De Atlantische Wereld: Amerika en Nederland digital library project, as part of the Global Gateways initiative.

The Atlantic World was the product of a partnership between the Library of Congress and the National Library of the Netherlands, which also enlisted the cooperation of other leading Dutch libraries, museums, and archives. This collection explored the history of the Dutch presence in America and the interactions between the United States and the Netherlands, from Henry Hudson's 1609 voyage to the post-World-War-II period. The initial stage of the original site was completed in the fall of 2003, and covers the period between 1609 and 1664. To access materials from the National Library of the Netherlands, explore The Memory External.

For a look at the original online presentation and a full list of all items included from the Library of Congress, you can view The Atlantic World: America and the Netherlands in the “Collaborative Digital Libraries” section of the Global Gateways Web Archive.
