Overview of Historical Discrimination in the Olympics: Gender, Sexuality, and Race

With the delayed Summer 2020 Olympics among us, historical context is needed to have a complete and informed picture of today's intertwined social issues. These instances of marginalization reflect the socio-political climate of the time period and showcases the reality of how one's perceived identity impacts the way they're treated in society at large.

The Olympics is a global event typically adorned with glowing positive connotations, however it is important to acknowledge the way this institution has wronged people based on their gender, sexuality, and race. While this esteemed attraction is fascinating and fun to watch, we must stand up for the rights of those who are left behind. To truly love something, one must be critical of all its elements.
