Summary

In this collection, students will analyze and discuss various primary and secondary sources about inventions, workers, and work conditions during U.S. industrialization and in modern times.  Students will use several thinking routines throughout the lesson as they consider the positive and negative effects of the US rapidly industrializing during the Industrialization era and today.  Students will look at sources from multiple perspectives to develop their own perspective on the costs and benefits of industrialization then and now.

**  Were the benefits of industrialization worth the costs?
    * Who benefited?   * Who lost out?
    * What are some of the benefits and costs of industrialization and globalization today?

    Essential Standards
    Students will apply social science skills to explain that industrialization had both positive and negative effects on society.  -USII.4.d
    Students will apply social science skills to evaluate and explain the impact of globalization and international trade on American life. -USII.8.e
