As an introduction to the Chicano Movement, we will explore the relationship between the US and Mexicans and Mexican-Americans from the establishment of the Republic of Texas through the Chicano Movement. We will also explore how the art, culture and heritage of Chicanos continues to be an integral component of Texas and US Culture.

The student is expected to: (b) describe the impacts of cultural movements in art, music, and literature such as Tin Pan Alley, the Harlem Renaissance, the Beat Generation, rock and roll, the Chicano Mural Movement, and country and western music on American society
