Art and Activism

This collection is designed to connect students to examples of activism through visual arts. The pieces reflect the role of artists in social justice and activist movements with a focus on local and current events and topics. The goal is that students will connect to their own experiences through their engagement with each piece and develop deeper understanding of art as a platform for expression. Students should use visual thinking strategies when examining each piece and prepare to share in written and verbal discussions. Students should also further collect and explore topics and artworks of importance to them and prepare to share their ideas.
