A Reflection on Polio, HIV/AIDS, and COVID-19 Health Approaches

What can we learn from seventy years of public health crises?

A Reflection on Polio, HIV/AIDS, and COVID-19 Health Approaches investigates healthcare mobilization, as well as issues pertaining to access and social justice amid public health outbreaks. Through exploring the different populations that each of these maladies disproportionately affects, this exhibit spotlights the relationships between these diseases, the healthcare responses seen, as well as the social attitudes towards these responses. Click through the photographs, posters, videos, and stories below to explore and reflect upon the lessons we could take away, while considering public health in a changing world.

This Learning Lab collection was created by Gage Reitzel, a student in the summer 2021 Smithsonian Affiliate Digital Learning and Engagement Internship, in partnership with Emerson Collective and The Health Museum, a Smithsonian Affiliate based in Houston, Texas.
