Black Feminism in Indiana

"The history of Black women's club activities in Indiana attests to the power and force of individuals and of a social movement for achieving good." -Erlene Stetson, 1983.

This learning lab deals with the development of black women's clubs in Indiana as organizing spaces for black feminism and the movements for self-improvement and social change they inspired. As you go through this learning lab, you will be asked to consider how you have learned about the leaders of social movements and what individuals may have been left out.

This learning Lab collection was created by Julia Lynn, a student intern, in the summer 2021 Smithsonian Affiliate Digital Learning and Engagement Internship, in partnership with Emerson Collective and the Indiana Historical Society, a Smithsonian Affiliate. #SAInterns #RaceAndSocialJustice #WomensHistory #IndianaHistoricalSociety
