Slavery: The Life of an Average Slave in America

Slavery in America was a social construct that forced people from other countries to come to America to work through the Atlantic Slave Trade. Slaves were treated horribly and were dehumanized in many ways. They were not seen as human beings but as property, and they had to endure harsh labor conditions and faced physical, emotional, and mental abuse. Not only were the actions taken by slaveholders inhumane, but they also caused severe trauma to their slaves. These horrific acts not only affected slaves in this generation, but have also haunted newer American generations for years. Slaves were subjected to extreme and unjust conditions simply because of the color of their skin.  In my exhibit I plan to explain the things slaves had to deal with daily and how that can have an effect on their mental, physical, and emotional states.
