The 1920's was a period of change, women gained suffrage and started breaking societal norms. African Americans in Harlem prospered, they celebrated jazz and blues in the Apollo Theater. This was a time of change where traditionalists and modernists ideas conflicted especially in the Scopes Trial. People started breaking the laws which can be seen during prohibition. The 1930's was a period where many Americans suffered during the great depression because Herbert Hoover did not believe in the government helping the American people. Veterans came back to a home where they could not find jobs or receive the bonus they were promised. Franklin Roosevelt  changed the role of the government in american lives, he helped Americans out of the depression and restored confidence in the banking system.
