Essential Question:  Has civil rights been achieved?  Which groups continue to still fight for their rights?

Lesson Description:

On June 26, 2016, he US Supreme Court ruled that it the fundamental right to marry is guaranteed to same sex couples (Obergefell v. Hodges).  This, however, was not the beginning nor the end of the fight for equal rights in the LGBTQ+ community.  In this lesson, students will examine primary sources about different icons, events, and people throughout the 20th and 21st century.  Students will use the Project Zero thinking routine as they look through  the sources.

14 -  Students will apply social science skills to understand political and social conditions in the United States during the early twenty-first century and its impact on students’ identities, communities, and the world. 

ID.5-   Students will recognize traits of the dominant culture, their home culture and other cultures and understand how they negotiate their own identity in multiple spaces. 

AC.20-  Students will plan and carry out collective action against bias and injustice in the world and will evaluate what strategies are most effective.
