Chattel Slavery

Without the voice of the North, blacks would still be treated as property and not so much as a human being. Chattel slavery played a major role in bringing awareness to America that black people are not property, but actual human beings. Chattel slavery is the type of slavery where human beings are considered to be property and are bought and sold as such. This kind of slavery existed before the Civil War in the United States. It was widely practiced during the seventeenth, eighteenth, and nineteenth centuries, mostly in the South. Since majority of the people who lived up North did not agree with the South and wanted to abolish slavery, their disagreements led to the Civil War. The North winning the Civil War created the Thirteenth Amendment and ended chattel slavery in America.
