Dance and Music Portrayed in Visual Art
As an avid music listener and concert goer, it interests me to explore different cultures' dance and music. This collection explores the various depictions of dance and music in visual art throughout multiple cultures and eras of time. Cultures expressed in this collection include the Egyptians, Romans, Renaissance, Medieval, Greeks, and modern mid-twentieth century music and dance. Dance types such as Egyptian acrobatics and the Pyrrhike dance are touched upon in this collection as well as modern dances influenced by twentieth century music. Dance is a universal language that can express emotion to all others without the need for a medium of verbal language to articulately represent an idea. Thus, dance can express some of the most intricate and complex of emotions and ideas, while presenting it to an audience in a beautiful and entertaining manner. This collection will provide images of dance and music that was integral and crucial to everyday life of these cultures. Music has always played a massive role in dance, and depictions of various musical instruments are apparent in some of these visual art pieces. This offers a better look into what music and dance might have been like during these time periods, and living in these cultures on a day to day basis. It is obvious that both music and dance were essential among all cultures for entertainment and enjoyment. Music and dance allows the human race can connect with one another on an emotional and spiritual level, that cannot be attained through any other medium.
