Songs for Change - Listening for Inequality

How do songs give people a voice? How can songs change your perspective? Songs have a way of amplifying the intentions of its audience. How do musicians respond to social and racial inequality? What makes a song an "anthem?"

This collection highlights musicians who use their influence to speak out against social inequality. Using lyrics, visual storytelling or both, these artists use their influence to help others feel heard. In doing so they shine a light on the ever-present injustices in the U.S..

In this collection, we will listen and respond to music released in response to major events in the U.S. -- after the deaths of Trayvon Martin and George Floyd.
