How art is reinvented throughout the world. How artists influence other artists. #civicdiscourse

How art is reinvented throughout the world. Artist students will look at contemporary art that is in made from the inspiration of previous artwork.

The essential question for this collection is how do artists influence other artists through time periods and cultural borders. I teach in a school that is made up of one third immigrants.  I am constantly trying to find ways for those students to find themselves in the artwork that I show in class.

Using artists from non-American countries this collection shows how artists are influenced from their countries past as well as artwork from other cultures.  I  have tried to use artists that are representations of the countries, Nepal, Vietnam, Nigeria of the immigrant students that I teach. I use project zero thinking routines https://learninglab.si.edu/col...to get students thinking and writing about how the artwork is reinterpreted through the lens of time and other cultures.  I would use one image and its reinvention as a warm up and writing exercise at the beginning of each class. As the class periods progressed I would  have students do research in finding an artwork that they would want to reinvent through there own lens.

It should take about 2 weeks to work through this  collection
