Indian Relocation: Urbanization and the (R)Evolution of the American/Indian

This collection focuses on the assimilationist policies of the Termination Era (1945-1961) that were aimed at urbanizing tribal groups and “freeing” Indians from federal supervision. The government’s strategies to bridge the gap between “American” and “Indian” are examined alongside the resurgence of Indian activism that began in the New Deal era and contributed to a new expression of identity in the form of Indian nationalism.
