The Civil War was a very important event in the history of the United States.  It was fought from 1861 until 1865. This war mainly started because of the disputes between the Northern and Southern states, in which "the Southern states wanted to keep the practice of slavery and the Northern states didn't." There were said to be other factors, "such as taxation  and  States Rights." However, after four years of fighting, the Union won the war and the United States ended the practice of slavery. 

Through my collection,I wanted to examine the different soldier or officer uniforms that the Union and the Conferdate soldiers wore during this time period.
