The Post Office on Church Street: A 9/11 Story
On September 11th, 2001, the World Trade Center (WTC) Twin Towers in New York City, NY were attacked by terrorists. Two planes flew into the towers, causing them to burn and collapse. Many first responders, civilians, and workers were lost in the tragedy. The WTC's post office, located at 90 Church Street, was damaged in the attack. In the aftermath, US Postal Service (USPS) and the Postal Inspection Service, the law enforcement arm of the USPS, worked to protect the mail of survivors and those lost.
The National Postal Museum collected artifacts from the Church Street Post Office, allowing us to remember and retell the story of September 11th. As we reach the 20th anniversary, we continue telling the story of those lost, and the resilience of the American people.
