"Three Worlds Meet" 1600's America

Essential Question: How is the US built by different voices, experiences, and people?

Learners will: study this collection of materials and read the articles. Then they will complete a Connections to History thinking routine page.

Learning Experience Sequence:

  1. Introduce thinking routine:  Share and discuss the expectations and use of the Connections to History page. 

Tell students to examine the source, read the related informational text, think about what they are seeing, and connect it to the idea that "Three Worlds" are meeting in North America in the 1600s.  It is important that students read the connected text, it provides additional historical evidence on contributions/motivations of different groups in colonial America.  Students can use the added questions to guide their examination of the sources.  After examining all the sources, students use the historical evidence to complete the Connections to History thinking routine. 

2. Go on to the video segment and activities in the PBS Lesson: Taking Away from Our Culture. Learners will watch the video and then complete the 2 activities: What to Wear? and Culture or Costume

3. Finally, learners will create a multi-media presentation of their learning using their choice of the apps: AR Makr, Chatterpix, or Flip a Clip (or others approved by the educator).
