In the late 1960's and early 1970's, changes in migrant farm worker rights were happening in large part due to the efforts of leaders like Dolores Huerta and Cesar Chavez. Still, migrant farm work was often difficult due to the labor itself and the conditions imposed upon workers. Children of migrant farm workers were often left in vehicles while their parents worked. To combat this issue, south Texas teachers were encouraged to follow migrant worker families to setup schools and daycares for childcare. Imperial, Nebraska housed one such program in the basement of the Methodist Church.
