On timing: This project can be kept focused on the artistic process and completed in one class period, but will benefit from additional time to explore ideas and work on building and design.

Beyond the art class, this project would work well in a language arts class to compliment a creative writing exercise. 

This project can be adapted for students in elementary and middle school.

• Younger students (PK, K, and 1) will need support with fine motor skills and use of materials, such as cutting their box and other materials. Notes to teachers on how to facilitate and manage this project are included throughout this Learning Lab. Special considerations for preschool students are included throughout this project.
  
• Older students (grades 2 - 8) might extend their learning through creating a story to accompany their diorama. Some creative writing prompts: 
  • What kind of creature would live in your creation? How would they spend their time? 
  • What would you add to your diorama if you had endless materials and time?
  • You’ve been miniaturized so you fit inside your box! What would you do?
