Art & Me: Celebrating Cherry Blossoms

This Learning Lab Collection shares artworks and learning materials from three hands-on, art preservation workshops related to the National Cherry Blossom Festival. We encourage you to extend your learning and participate in activities in your free time. In this learning lab, we have compiled artworks from all three workshops in addition to sharing PowerPoint presentations from each workshop for you to do at home.

About this program:

Celebrate spring and DC’s beloved cherry blossoms with a festive virtual family workshop. The delicate sakura, or cherry blossoms, have been depicted in landscapes, figure paintings, and prints for centuries. Learn how Smithsonian art conservators preserve these beautiful yet fragile artworks. Then get creative and make your own cherry blossom–inspired artwork.

This hands-on, art-making preservation workshop is designed for children ages three to eight and their caretakers. The program is cohosted by the Smithsonian American Art Museum and the Smithsonian’s National Museum of Asian Art.
