Let's explore Art and Architecture! In this collection, you'll meet the Hirshhorn Museum, learn about architecture, and create your own building for a collection of your favorite things.

This collection is part one of a larger series that explores how artists and architects think, plan, and construct structures; introduces physical forces including balance, gravity, and tension; and provides opportunities for students to try their hand at several design challenges including a final Enchanted City project!

District of Columbia Public School Teachers can use this to complete the Grade 2 Enchanted Cities Unit. This series addresses the following Visual Arts Standards: 

• VA:Cr1.1.2a: Brainstorm collectively multiple approaches to an art or design problem.
• VA:Cr2.3.2: Repurpose objects to make something new.
• VA:Re.7.1.2a: Perceive and describe aesthetic characteristics of one’s natural world and constructed environments.
• VA:Cr3.1.2: Discuss and reflect with peers about choices made in creating artwork.
• VA:Re9.1.2: Use learned art vocabulary to express preferences about artwork.
