Visual Art and Cultural History in UTSA Collections is a project that puts into conversation themes in UTSA’s Institute of Texan Cultures and UTSA’s Art Collection. Organized units present and explore relationships between social and cultural histories and creative expressions. Topics develop from exploration of major themes in two vectors: “Local and Regional Histories and Contexts” and “Objects, Experiences, and Creative Cultural Avenues.” Research for this project is the product of graduate student seminar in the School of Art in Spring 2024.

A Story of the Universe

Under the prevailing laws of nature, the concepts of past, present, and future coexist equivalently. This equivalence arises because these laws do not differentiate between distinct moments in time; rather, all moments are treated as uniformly existing. Consequently, the past exists in the same manner as the present does. Although debates continue, it appears that the laws of nature fundamentally conserve information, suggesting that every aspect of your existence and your personal history is, in a sense, everlasting. 

In my research, I present themes of cosmic evolution, perceived as a creative process characterized by connection, interdependence, and emergence. This exploration includes studying the dynamic interactions involved in the formation of galaxies, the Earth, life, and human communities. It aims to enhance our understanding of evolutionary processes and their consequences for humanity and our ecological future.

These concepts of cosmic and evolutionary continuities tie seamlessly into the prevailing laws of nature, where past, present, and future coexist equivalently, suggesting a universal conservation of information. This implies that every aspect of existence, from cosmic to personal scales, is interconnected and enduring.
