This lesson was created for a heterogenous, 9th grade world history and geography class. As students move from the Islamic World unit to Renaissance to Imperialism and Colonialism, they are asked to consider the individual experiences during this time, the perspectives of whose voice gets to tell the stories/history, and find connections from these past events to the present day. Nothing happens in a vacuum, and learning to critically examining the present day can uncover these deep connections to the past.
