Water Quality Monitoring Data and Lessons
Water quality monitoring is an important component of tracking water quality in the Chesapeake Bay and its tributaries. Monitoring can include measurements of both chemical and biological features of waterways.
This classroom lesson uses both chemical and biological data from the Maryland Department of Natural Resources stream survey. The students will make comparisons between water quality parameters in streams located in different areas across the state of Maryland and connect patterns in water chemistry to abundances of biota observed in each stream.
