Arab American Food Traditions | Arab Indianapolis
Imagine yourself cooking alongside three Arab Americans as you learn about the diverse contributions of Arab people to American cuisine such as tabbouleh and stuffed grape leaves. The video features Arab Americans Samia Alajouni, Hiba Alalami, and Edward Curtis cooking foods in Hiba’s kitchen from across the Arabic-speaking world, from Morocco to Syria.
Using the video in tandem with the suggested teaching resources, students learn about Arab American food traditions and what these traditions means to Arab Americans. They examine the pivotal role of immigration, transportation, and agriculture in the making of the food, and how food sustains ethnic identity.
