Learn about the National Association of Colored Women’s Clubs in this clip from MAKING BLACK AMERICA, presented by Henry Louis Gates, Jr. ​​During the period referred to as the Women's Era, Black women came together to make sure that their voices were heard in their community's struggle for justice. The convergence of Black women's national organizations—the Colored Women's League of Washington D.C. and the National Federation of Afro-American Women—formed the National Association of Colored Women's Clubs in 1896. The accompanying lesson will explore the orgins of this important organization.
