Weigh in on the debate over whether President Truman should have ordered the use of atomic weapons against Japan in August 1945. In this interactive lesson, students use the information available to Truman at the time, presented in a variety of primary and secondary sources, to learn about three major issues that influenced his decision making. At the end of the lesson, students will respond to the lesson’s essential question: Was President Truman correct in his decision to drop atomic bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki?
