After the ride, the 25th Infantry served in Cuba and the Phillipines before returning to the United States. In 1906, a scandal in Brownsivlle, Texas, resulted in the wrongful punishment of all 106 members of the infantry, including Mingo Sanders. This event reflected the bias toward Black Americans that was very present at the start of the 20th Century.
