Similes and Metaphors | Rise and Shine: Literacy Time

2018 Arkansas Teacher of the Year, Randi House, defines similes and metaphors and shares several examples of both types of figurative language. Ms. House explains the difference between the literal and figurative meaning of the words, and she briefly discusses the purpose of using figurative language in writing. The resource accompanying this video provides students the opportunity to distinguish types of figurative language, use context to determine the meaning of similes and metaphors, and practice creating their own examples of figurative language.
