Women and Art | Uncovering America

How is feminism expressed? What forms does feminism take on a personal level (by an individual) or on a larger scale (by a society)? How does gender inequality intersect with injustices related to race, ethnicity, religion, age, or other markers of identity (visible or invisible)? What tactics have artists used to confront gender inequality?

In this set of artworks and suggested activities, students will examine, reflect upon, and respond to art by women, considering identity, political messages, social norms, and materiality.
