Eisenhower and Integration in Little Rock | AMERICAN EXPERIENCE
Explore President Eisenhower's response to the tensions in Little Rock, Arkansas in September of 1957, when nine Black students planned to attend Central High School, in this video segment from AMERICAN EXPERIENCE. In a direct challenge to the federal government, Governor Orval Faubus ordered the Arkansas National Guard to maintain order and prevent the students from entering the school. This became one of the pivotal events in the fight to desegregate America’s schools.
