Huey Long, Louisiana Governor and United States Senator, was a controversial political figure. In this lesson, students will study what made Long a beloved figure among his constituents as well as why many of his colleagues wanted to see him impeached. Students will also examine Long’s platform and his successes and failures as a politician, that ultimately led to his assassination. With this knowledge, students will have the opportunity to think critically about the political impact Long had and to create a modern-day political campaign and focus on an issue that society faces today.
