My Vote Counts Lesson Plan | ARTHUR

In this lesson from the PBS KIDS series ARTHUR, students learn about elections and to voice their preferences by voting. Students watch the first half of “Vote for the New Mascot” and participate in a classroom election. They register to vote, learn about the candidates, create campaign posters, and head to the polls. Then they tally the results and declare a winner! After watching the remainder of the video, students discuss the outcome of the election, including the emotions that arise when their candidate wins or loses. Finally, they talk about putting their differences aside, accepting the results, and remaining united despite the outcome.
