Why Do We Invent? The Men Who Made Radio: A Case Study
Throughout history, individuals have been driven to invent and create new things. Sometimes they are motivated by physical needs, sometimes more so by psychological wants, like prestige success, greed, and curiosity. Inventors Lee de Forest, Edwin Armstrong, and David Sarnoff each contributed to the series of innovations that brought radio into Americans’ homes. While each innovative and creative, these men were all very different from each other. History remembers each of these men differently, too.

Victoria Patch Williams is a teacher, professor, and entrepreneur based in Maryland. She taught middle and high school social studies and English for 7 years in Prince George's County, MD and New York City. She is passionate about the elevation of Black voices, the integration of the arts and social studies, and working with new teachers.
