Soul Train | Blackademics

Dr. Kevin Foster discusses the significance of Soul Train, a popular music-dance television program featuring performances by R&B, soul, dance/pop, and hip-hop artists. The program was created by Don Cornelius, who was its first host and executive producer. Soul Train made television history. At the time, there were virtually no commercial television programs produced by Black people geared toward Black audiences in the 1970s. The program provided an avenue for Black artists, influenced music, fashion, and dance spaces, and established itself as a cornerstone of American culture.
