In 2010, American R&B recording artist John Legend and hip hop band The Roots were inspired by the 2008 Presidential election to collaborate on the album Wake Up! This album included songs from the 1960’s and 70’s that were chosen to deliver a sense of urgency and to convey the change that was going on in the world at the time. This unit includes excerpts from John Legend and The Roots performance on ACL in 2010, accompanied by three lessons for multiple grade levels to help instruct and explore a variety of musical and language arts skills.
