Hot Springs State Park

Hot Springs State Park is Wyoming’s oldest state park and features a variety of sights. In these lessons students will learn about the formation and history of the hot springs, and examine petroglyphs. Students will learn about the formation of hot springs and how the Earth's mantle transfers heat to underground water in order to create hot springs and geysers. Students will create and translate petroglyphs like the ones found in Hot Springs State Park.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES:

  • Students will understand how hot springs are formed.
  • Students will be able to accurately describe how thermal energy is responsible for the eruption of geysers and the formation of hot springs.
  • Students will be able to perform short research projects to accomplish a task.
  • Students will be able to write a complete text with descriptive details and a clear sequence.
