Life in the Trenches: In Their Own Words | All Is Calm

Life in the trenches during World War I was far from the glamorous lifestyle many young soldiers expected. In this video from All is Calm: The Christmas Truce of 1914, we get a glimpse into the realities of war through the eyes of the soldiers who lived it, through various primary sources; their songs, their letters, their poetry. Explore the hardships of war and how these soldiers coped through their own words. Students will also engage in creative writing activities using poetry from the era, as well as think about the artifacts in their own lives that may be considered primary source documents by future historians!
