Discover the Malta Summit, which took place in December 1989 and was the first meeting between the Soviet leader, Mikhail Gorbachev, and President George H.W. Bush, since Bush had taken office. Bush laid out his plans to support Gorbachev and his reforms within the Soviet Union.
