Fall of the Berlin Wall | Bush Presidency
Learn more about the Berlin Wall, which the Soviet Union built to separate East and West Berlin after World War II. In November 1989, the wall opened after an East German spokesman wrongly announced that the wall was open between the two Berlins. People celebrated, dancing on the wall and streaming across the border. President George H.W. Bush tried to downplay the event because he knew that it was a hard time for Soviet Leader Mikhail Gorbachev. This resource is part of the Statecraft: The Bush 41 Team collection.
