The Value of Fossils | Prehistoric Road Trip
Dr. Lawrence Bradley's research examines the history of academic paleontology and its intersection with Native American tribal lands. He discusses his research of natural history museum collections, and how fossil specimens have been collected from Oglala Lakota Sioux tribal lands seemingly without permission from the tribal communities, and then taken to museums.
Students will explore the complexities of finding fossils from digging, and taking them to museums to be studied, written about, and published in scientific journals versus leaving them in the ground. For more information, visit the Prehistoric Road Trip website.
