The Debate Over “New” Immigration | Interactive Lesson
In this interactive lesson, students examine how and why the U.S. government moved from having no federal immigration restrictions to effectively closing America’s doors to immigrants with the 1924 Johnson-Reed Act. Students watch videos and analyze a variety of primary and secondary sources to understand the arguments made for and against immigration. They then use the lesson’s historical evidence to support their own arguments opposing the Johnson-Reed Act.
